Most wanted deadbeat dad gets prison for evading $1 million in child support

America’s most wanted deadbeat dad is going to jail after fleeing the country to escape $903,789 in child support payments.
Robert Sand had evaded payments for a decade, first moving from New York to Florida and then fleeing to Thailand, where he opened a business, after warrants were issued for his arrest in 2000 and 2002, according to the Department of Justice.
After a decade as a fugitive, Sand was arrested in November 2012 when he tried to enter the Philippines without proper identification. He pleaded guilty in federal court to two counts of traveling in interstate and foreign commerce with the intent to evade court-ordered child support obligations.
“Robert Sand literally fled the country to avoid his obligation to the children he brought into this world,” said U.S. Attorney Loretta Lynch. “But law enforcement did not turn their back on those children and what they were due. This Father’s Day will find Sand behind bars, finally being held to account for his abandonment.”
